HALO conducts training in the Central African Republic
HALO recently responded to an invitation from UNMAS (United Nations Mine Action Service) to provide weapons disposal training in CAR for the local Gendarmerie and Army. Training focused on Weapons Shears, a specialised disposal tool designed by the HALO Trust and used in six countries to facilitate disarmament projects.
The HALO team ran a four day course between the 18th and the 22nd March 2014, followed by the disposal of 745 items received from the SANGARIS (French peacekeeping force).
HALO trained and certified thirteen students, who are now able to conduct autonomous weapons disposal operations, more specifically 鈥 setting up weapons disposal perimeters, conducting 鈥渕ake safe鈥 procedures with modern weapons and traditional hunting guns, keeping weapons destruction records, operating and maintaining the Weapons Shears.
